بسم الله و الصلاة والسلام على رسول الله و على آله و أصحابه أجمعين
أَمَّا بعد:
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Indeed all praise is due to Allaah, The One Who has blessed me with the opportunity to travel to Egypt and study this most blessed Deen. More specifically, He – Ta'aalaahas opened the door for me to study the Arabic language, the language of the Qur'aan, the language of our beloved Prophet – Sallallaahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam the language which is the foundation of Islaam and all knowledge related to it. As Allaah – Ta'aalaastates in His Book:

ﭿﮩ ﮪ ﮫ ﮬ ﮭ ﮮ ﮯ

"Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'ân in order that you may understand."
(Yusuf 12:2)

ﭿ ﮇ ﮈ ﮉ ﮊ ﮋ

"And thus have We sent it (the Qur'ân) down to be a judgment of authority in Arabic."
(Ra'd 13:37)

ﰃ ﰄ ﰅ ﰆ ﰇ ﰈ ﰉ ﰊ ﰋ ﰌ ﰍ ﰎ ﰏ ﰐ ﰑ

"And thus We have sent it down as a Qur'ân in Arabic, and have explained therein in detail the warnings, in order that they may fear Allâh, or that it may cause them to have a lesson from it (or to have the honor for believing and acting on its teachings)."
(Ta-Ha 20:113)

O ﮓ ﮔ ﮕ ﮖ ﮗ ﮘ ﮙ ﮚ ﮛ ﮜ ﮝ ﮞ ﮟ ﮠ ﮡ ﮢ ﮣ ﮤ ﮥ ﮦ

"And truly, this (the Qur'ân) is a revelation from the Lord of the 'Aalamîn (mankind, jinns and all that exists); Which the trustworthy Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought down; Upon your heart (O Muhammad, Sallallaahu 'Alayhi wa Sallam) that you may be (one) of the warners; In the plain Arabic language."
(Ash-Shu'ara 26:192-195)

ﯣ ﯤ ﯥ ﯦ ﯧ ﯨ ﯩ ﯪ

"An Arabic Qur'ân, without any crookedness (therein) in order that they may avoid all evil which Allâh has ordered them to avoid, fear Him and keep their duty to Him."
(Az-Zumar 39:28)

ﭘ ﭙ ﭚ ﭛ ﭜ ﭝ ﭞ ﭟ

"A Book whereof the Verses are explained in detail; A Qur'ân in Arabic for people who know."
(Fussilat 41:3)

In the short time that I have been studying this language, I have been amazed and humbled by the vastness of its rules and definitions; how one word in the Arabic language carries with it five or ten or even fifteen different words to define it in the English language; how one word can change meaning simply by the context in which it is used; how one word, when broken down to its root, can be conjugated into multiple patterns, all of which carry with them differing meanings.

I have been studying for a little over a year and what I have learned, when weighed against the entirety of what this language contains, does not even equal the weight of a date stone. Allaahu Akbar....Allaahu Akbar...Allaahu Akbar...Wa Lillaahil-Hamd. For He – Ta'aalaa – in His Infinite Wisdom, chose the Arabic language for His Final Revelation. And little do we reflect and ponder over the signs of Allaah!!!

Connected with knowledge of the Arabic language comes knowledge of Kitaabillaah, Al-Qur'aan Al-Kareem, which by the Will of Allaah, I have also been able to partake in learning and memorizing. And as with the language in which it was revealed, the sciences of the Qur'aan - from the rules of its recitation (At-Tajweed), to the explanation of it verses (At-Tafseer), to the ultimate application of it in your life - are a vast and expansive ocean of which few are able to touch its waters with the equivalent of their pinky toe. And even fewer are able to delve in and navigate with expertise and precision. Let alone reach its shores in order to begin the journey. Laa! Rather most of us don't even take the steps to get to the shore to take the journey. Most of us are still at home, in bed, asleep. And we seek refuge in Allaah from being amongst the ignorant and astray. The ones whom Allaah has placed seals upon their hearts and covers on their eyes - deaf, dumb and blind. For indeed the Qur'aan will come on the Day of Judgment as a proof for or against us, may Allaah make it a proof for us all. Aameen.

And indeed, if we examine the condition of our Ummah and what is given priority when it comes to seeking of knowledge, we see in our times, particularly amongst the Muslims in the West, that knowledge of the Qur'aan has been thrown on the back burner and instead of being the FIRST thing that people learn, it has become the thing that nobody learns. Take notice!!! I did not say it has become the second or third or fourth thing. Laa! It has become the thing that nobody learns...or very few. So that you have people memorizing the books of our respected 'Ulamaa', past and present, and they have not even memorized the last Juz' of the Qur'aan, let alone the whole Qur'aan!!! And what they have memorized, they do not recite correctly because they have not taken the time to learn the correct rules of recitation. Nor do they know the meaning of that which they recite in the Arabic language, both its literal meaning as well as its meaning as expounded upon by the great scholars of At-Tafseer. Nor do they apply what has come in that which they have memorized of lessons, commandments and prohibitions. Not realizing that all of this would be better for them and be weightier for them in the sight of Allaah than their memorizing the books of all of the 'Ulamaa' put together, even if it just be Sooraatul-Faatihah. And indeed with Allaah refuge is sought.

In light of all of the above, I felt compelled to erect a website which – InshaaAllaahu Ta'aalaa will focus on the importance of giving priority to the Qur'aan - reading it, reflecting and pondering over it, understanding it, memorizing it, and acting in accordance with it. And undoubtedly connected to knowledge of the Qur'aan is knowledge of the Arabic language, as it is the language in which the Qur'aan was revealed. And so this connection will also be focused on – Bi-Idhnillaah.

Per the request of one of my beautiful sisters in Islaam, I have decided to include two main entries on this site:

The First Entry: Verse of the Day

In this section –
Bi-Idhnillaah I intend to post at least one Aayah from the Qur'aan, along with which I will also post its relevant Tafseer. I have decided to utilize the Tafseer of Ash-Shaykh 'Abdur-Rahmaan bin Naasir As-Sa'dee – Rahimahullaah entitled,"Tayseer Al-Kareem Ar-Rahmaan fee Tafseer Kalaam Al-Mannaan.” I have chosen this particular Tafseer as it is known for its concise and simple language, making it easily understandable for people of all levels of knowledge. It is also the Tafseer which I am currently utilizing in my studies. In-keeping with the connection between the Qur'aan and the Arabic language itself, I will be posting both the Aayah and its relevant Tafseer in their original Arabic first, followed by the English translation of their meanings.

The Second Entry: Word of the Day

In this section –
InshaaAllaahu Ta'aalaa I will be posting one new Arabic word. To connect this section with the first section, words will be chosen from the accompanying Aayah which has been posted for the day. I will post the word as it appears in the Aayah, followed by the word from which it is drawn, followed by its root, followed by its meaning. As in the first section and to re-iterate the importance and precedence of the Arabic language, all information in this section will be posted first in Arabic followed by the English translation of its meanings.

In addition to the two main sections above, I also intend –
Bi-Idhnillaah – to post any relevant links to websites that I have come across that – InshaaAllaah will aid us all in our quest to understand, recite and memorize the Book of Allaah in the best and most correct manner.

As a disclaimer, I would like to point out that I am not a scholar, but a mere student of knowledge striving to increase in my understanding and implementation of this beautiful Deen to which Allaah, through His Mercy, has guided me. That being said, I am not without faults and shortcomings, and so it is possible that mistakes may befall my translations and/or explanations. I ask that if anyone comes across such mistakes or feels that something can be translated in a clearer more concise manner than what I have posted, please contact me immediately so that I can make the necessary changes.

In closing, I supplicate to Allaah that this site brings nothing but benefit, the source of which is Him and Him alone. And I ask Allaah to keep it free from error and corruption. And indeed with Allaah aid is sought and with Allaah lies all success.

Jazaakumullaahu Khairan was-Salaamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh,

Nov 8-A sufficient reminder of the need we have to give more time to seeking to understand the Book of Allaah - the Most High - can be derived from two quotes from the book 'al-'Uqoodud-Durriyyah' of Imaam Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn 'Abdil-Haadee (d. 744 H), wherein he describes his teacher Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn taymiyyah: "So from that is what he gathered from the sayings of the people of Tafseer, from the Salaf, those who mentioned the chains of narration in their books. So this would amount to more than thirty volumes. Some of his students have transcribed some of that, and much of it has still not been transcribed by them; and he - rahimahullaah - used to say: 'Sometimes, regarding a single Aayah, I refer to about one hundred Tafseers. Then I ask Allaah to grant me understanding of it, and I say: "O One Who taught Aadam and Ibraaheem! Teach me." [al-'Uqoodud-Durriyyah of Ibn 'Abdil-Haadee, p. 29.] Yet, despite this degree of care and attention, he said whilst in prison: "Allaah has opened up for me this time, regarding the meanings of the Qur'aan and fundamentals of knowledge, such things that many of the scholars would wish to attain, and I have come to regret having used up most of my time on other than the meanings of the Qur'aan." [ibid. p. 27] ~ From the introduction of the book "Tafseer Sooratin-Naba'," compiled and translated by Aboo Talhah Daawood ibn Ronald ibn Louis Burbank - may Allaah have mercy upon him and raise him to the highest rank in the Hereafter.
Jan 4-عن أبي هريرة، عن النبي - صلى الله عليه و سلم - قال: تهادوا تحابوا On the authority of Abee Hurayrah: on the authority of the Prophet, Sallallaahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam, who stated, “Give gifts as it will create love amongst you.” (Adab Al-Mufrad of Al-Bukhaariyy, Hadeeth 594; graded as Hasan)
O you who believe! Follow not the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan). And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan), then, verily he commands Al-Fahshâ' [i.e. to commit indecency (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.)], and Al-Munkar [disbelief and polytheism (i.e. to do evil and wicked deeds; to speak or to do what is forbidden in Islâm, etc.)]. And had it not been for the Grace of Allâh and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins. But Allâh purifies (guides to Islâm) whom He wills, and Allâh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (An-Nur 24:21)
Dec 8-العلم يجذب طالبه إلى صاحبه و كذلك طالبه إلى طالبه, لأن صاحب العلم الحقيقي لا يتوقف عن طلبه أبدا "Knowledge attracts/draws/gravitates the one who seeks it to the one who possesses it. And likewise (it attracts) the seeker to the seeker. For the one who possesses knowledge, in truth, never ceases from seeking it. Ever."
Nov 9-Trivia Question: What was the reasoning behind Allaah revealing Sooratun-Naba'?
Nov 7-A Funny Yet Convenient Word Find: One day, while perusing through my Hans Wehr Arabic-English Dictionary, I came across a verb for one of my husband's many "catch phrases." I chuckled to myself as the word which is equivalent to this phrase is just so appropriate and concise and to the point, traits which characterize the Arabic language in general. I proceeded to share it with not only my husband but my closest companion here in Egypt, as I knew she would be tickled by it and also it would come in handy in our own conversation. So what is the word you ask? It is...... (( اِسْتَرْجِلْ )) - Istarjil! Its meaning: "Be a man!" or as my husband likes to say, "Man up!" LOL! Had to share.
Nov 1-A beautiful thing happened today: I was teaching a sister Qur'aan online and we have just began with Soorat An-Naba'. My apartment is really small Maa Shaa Allaah and my computer is very close to the balcony so when I recite, if one of my neighbors upstairs or downstairs are on the balcony, or even near it, they can hear my recitation. This is something that my teacher and I battle with when we have class, as my teacher has a very strong and loud voice Maa Shaa Allaah and the room in which we hold class is right above the main floor so if we have the windows open, her voice carries into the street. SubhaanAllaah one time we had class and my companion lives in the same building but on the 4th floor and she told me that she could hear my teacher and I reciting Maa Shaa Allaah. So anyway, I usually hold class early in the morning, right after Fajr, when everyone is asleep. But now with this one particular sister, we have class in the late afternoon. So, I was reciting and all of a sudden I heard this child's voice loudly repeating what I had recited Maa Shaa Allaah. And he didn't stop at what I recited but kept going on to the next Aayah Maa Shaa Allaah. I so wanted the sister who I was teaching to hear Maa Shaa Allaah as she can usually hear the Adhaan and other sounds from the street (this, despite my being on the 16th floor Maa Shaa Allaah). But she was unable to hear him. Anyway, the incident was a reminder to me of the impressionability of children and how SubhaanAllaah, it is really important that we start having them memorize the Qur'aan when they are young. I'm talking about 3, 4 years old. Another sister that I teach, she has her daughter watch this video I made of Sooratul-Faatihah and her daughter is 2 SubhaanAllaah. And she is able to repeat what she hears Maa Shaa Allaah. Of course it is not completely clear, but Maa Shaa Allaah you can make out what she is saying. This was the way of our Salaf and the way of our illustrious 'Ulamaa past and present. So that you will find in their biographies that the majority of them memorized the Book of Allaah at a very young age, some as young as 7 years old! What are our children memorizing? What are they repeating? The latest hip hop or pop song? The foul speech that they overhear from the television, or worse, from their own parents' mouths? Or just some random speech that contains no benefit? I implore you all, my dear brothers and sisters, your children are like fertile fields thirsting for a good harvest. Plant the seeds of righteousness now. Don't let the years waste away without taking full benefit or even worse, harvesting spoiled and tainted crops. Even if you are unable to teach them Qur'aan, just something as simple as having the Qur'aan playing in the house, around them, In Shaa Allaah they will pick it up that way. Start with Sooratul-Faatihah, with a reciter whose recitation is clear and precise and keep it on repeat. Trust me, their little brains will soak it up and you will find them walking around the house and, at first, if they are really young, maybe it will start off as a hum of sorts. Then, as they hear it more and begin to learn to form letters and words, you will find them repeating what they hear with a precision that we, in our older years, are unable to match. Start now! May Allaah increase us all in beneficial knowledge and righteous action. Aameen!
Oct 26-And the Salaf – رَحِمَهُمُ الله – they were the furthest of people from loving fame. From the examples of this is what has come in the biography of Ayyoob As-Sakhtiyaanee – رَحِمَهُ الله تَعَالَى – : As Shu'bah, he mentions that Ayyoob stated: ذُكرت و لا أَحِبُّ أَنْ ُأذْكِرَ “I was mentioned (by the people) and I don't like to be mentioned.” And Shu'bah, he also stated: ربما ذهبت مع أيوب لحاجة فلا يدعني أمشي معه، و يخرج من هاهنا و هاهنا؛ لكيلا يفطن له “Perhaps I would go out with Ayyoob in order to take care of some need. So he wouldn't just allow me to simply walk with him. But rather he would exit from here and come from this way, entering into the different ways of the streets, just so he would not be noticed.” And Hammaad stated: كنت أمشي معه (يعني أيوب) فيأخذ في طرق إني لأعجب كيف يهتدي لها؛ فرارا من الناس أن يقال: هذا أيوب “I would walk with him (i.e. Ayyoob As-Sakhtiyaanee) and he would take different paths and he would take different streets, taking this street and taking that street and this side-street and this back-way, until I was amazed, I was perplexed as to how he even knew where he was going. And he did this, running away from the people out of fear that they would say 'This is Ayyoob.'” ~ From the book: Signposts Upon the Path of Seeking Knowledge (مَعَالِمُ فِي طَرِيقِ طَلَبِ العِلْمِ) by Ash-Shaykh 'Abdil-'Azeez bin Muhammad bin 'Abdillaah As-Sadhaan (الشَّيْخ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الله السَّدْحَان) as translated by Aboo Rayhaanah Aqil Ingram
